About Us

School of health sciences offers a four-year degree program (BS hons.) in Medical Imaging & Ultrasonography. This program encompasses the clinical applications with training of all the basic modalities of Medical Imaging such as X-rays, Fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasonography keeping in view the diversity and advancements of the current times. The SHS department takes pride in producing highly trained and skilled professionals with its innovative teaching methods, bringing the most out of its students. We have adopted and modified our curriculum, making our graduates meet the modern hospital-based challenges with focusing on quality healthcare education and research.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO 1: Graduates will learn proficiency in operating a range of medical imaging equipment and technologies, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine systems and expand their knowledge and skills through lifelong learning, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in medical imaging technology and best practices in patient care. (Cognitive)

PEO 2: Graduates will be able to demonstrate and implement the skills related to high-quality medical images, and radiation precautions while managing patient plan of care according to evidence-based best practices and advancement of technology in healthcare. (Psychomotor)

PEO 3: Graduates will adhere to ethical and legal standards in healthcare including patient confidentiality and informed consent, effectively communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care. (Affective)

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

PLO 1 – MIU Knowledge: Demonstrate proficiency in imaging techniques: An ability to acquire a comprehensive understanding of various medical imaging modalities, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine and ability to operate imaging equipment effectively and safely. (Cognitive)

PLO 2 – Problem-solving Skills: Analyze and interpret medical images: An ability to develop skills in image interpretation and analysis for the accurate diagnosis of medical conditions and understand the principles of image quality and recognize artifacts in medical images. (Cognitive & Psychomotor)

PLO 3 – Integrate Knowledge of Human Anatomy: Apply anatomy and physiology knowledge: An ability to integrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to interpret medical images and understand the pathophysiology of diseases. (Cognitive)

PLO 4 – Patient Management and Plan of Care: Ensure patient safety and comfort: An ability to implement protocols and practices to ensure patient safety during imaging procedures and demonstrate effective communication skills to provide information and ensure patient comfort during imaging examinations. (Affective & Psychomotor)

PLO 5 – Innovation and Advancements: Utilize information technology: An ability to proficiently use healthcare information systems and image processing software and stay current with advancements in imaging technology and informatics. (Affective)

PLO 6 – Screening and Professional Ethics: Adhere to ethical and professional standards: An ability to understand and adhere to ethical standards and patient confidentiality in the practice of medical imaging and demonstrate professionalism in interactions with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. (Affective)

PLO 7 – Interdisciplinary Team Work: Collaborate in a healthcare team: An ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team, collaborating with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care. (Affective)

PLO 8 – Communication Skills and Counseling: Continuous professional development: An ability to engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay abreast of advancements in medical imaging technology and healthcare. (Affective)

PLO 9 – Quality Assurance and Radiation Safety: An ability to implement quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of medical imaging results and adhere to radiation safety principles and minimize radiation exposure to patients and healthcare providers. (Psychomotor)

PLO 10 – Research and Investigation: Research and critical thinking: Develop the ability to critically evaluate and apply research findings in the field of medical imaging and participate in research activities to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and lifelong learning in medical imaging. (Psychomotor & Affective)

Aim

The aim of this program is to equip the students with relevant professional knowledge, skills, techniques and ethical values to enable them to apply their acquired expertise at level between the doctors and the patient for efficient health service delivery.

Career Prospects

Medical Imaging is the backbone of medical sciences. Students well equipped with the theoretical background of radiological modalities can apply the knowledge in hospital, clinical practices, and can play an excellent role to improve the healthcare system of Pakistan. BS (MI&USG) offer rewarding careers in both public and private sector hospitals, diagnostic centers, medical institutions, medical research centers and in the field of medical education.
