BS Emergency Clinical Medicine Technology

Introduction Road Map

Program offered:

The aim of BS- Emergency Clinical Medicine Technology program is to produce skilled graduates expertise in practice of caring for patients with acute illness or injuries which require immediate medical attention. They can work as Emergency Medical Technologist in all domains of medicine and surgeries. And also, they have seats in Rescue 1122 as Emergency Technicians. They can work in any natural disaster situation like earthquakes, floods and displaced person’s rehabilitation and management.

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum 45% Marks in Intermediate / A-Level or equivalent (Pre-Medical) and no 3rd division in Matriculation + Minimum 45% marks in admission Test.

To be a leading program in emergency clinical medicine technology, dedicated to producing competent, ethical, and resilient professionals who excel in delivering timely, life-saving care and advancing emergency response systems in diverse healthcare and disaster settings.

Mission:

The mission of the BS Emergency Clinical Medicine Technology program is to develop highly skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate emergency technologists capable of delivering rapid, evidence-based care in acute and critical situations. The program aims to equip students with the clinical expertise, decision-making skills, and ethical foundation necessary to manage medical and surgical emergencies across all age groups. Through interdisciplinary training and a commitment to community health and disaster response, graduates will be prepared to serve effectively in hospitals, emergency departments, pre-hospital settings, and disaster management teams.

PEO 1: Accept emergency clinical medicine as a lifelong commitment and continuously invest time and effort to enhance professional knowledge and emergency care skills.

PEO 2: Demonstrate proficiency in managing critical medical and surgical emergencies across specialties such as cardiac, neurological, poly-traumatic, pediatric, and obstetrical care.

PEO 3: Provide safe and efficient care to patients of all age groups by making timely clinical decisions, recognizing emergency equipment, and administering emergency medications.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Cognitive Domain – Knowledge-Based Learning

PLO 1: Foundational Emergency Medicine Knowledge
Explain the principles and protocols of emergency clinical medicine, including trauma care, resuscitation, triage, and critical care management.

PLO 2: Clinical Decision-Making and Pharmacology
Recognize signs and symptoms of life-threatening conditions and apply clinical judgment to select appropriate interventions and emergency medications.

PLO 3: Emergency Equipment and Resource Management
Identify and understand the function, use, and maintenance of emergency equipment and supplies used in pre-hospital and in-hospital care.

Psychomotor Domain – Skills-Based Learning

PLO 4: Emergency and Trauma Response
Manage medical and surgical emergencies—including cardiac arrest, neurological trauma, pediatric, obstetric, and poly-trauma—using standardized protocols.

PLO 5: Emergency Patient Care Across Age Groups
Deliver safe, age-appropriate emergency care for neonates, children, adults, and elderly patients in high-pressure clinical settings.

PLO 6: Disaster Management and Field Support
Respond to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods by participating in rescue, triage, rehabilitation, and disaster team operations.

PLO 7: Use of Emergency Equipment and Technology
Utilize emergency care equipment (e.g., defibrillators, oxygen delivery systems, suction units) competently in both emergency departments and mobile response settings.

Affective Domain – Attitude and Professionalism

PLO 8: Ethical Practice and Responsibility
Demonstrate ethical conduct, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in managing critically ill patients and communicating with families during emergencies.

PLO 9: Team Collaboration and Leadership
Function effectively within emergency and interdisciplinary teams, and take leadership in organizing emergency care and disaster response.

PLO 10: Professional Identity and Readiness
Establish a professional identity as a skilled emergency technologist committed to preparedness, continual improvement, and public health safety.

Career Opportunities:

 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):

  •  Respond to emergency calls, assess patients, and provide basic life support interventions, such as CPR, airway management, and splinting, in pre-hospital settings.
  • Paramedic: Advance your career as a paramedic, providing advanced life support interventions, including administering medications, performing advanced airway management, and conducting cardiac monitoring, in emergency situations.

They May Join Rescue 1122 as Emergency Technician.

  • Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech):

Work in hospital emergency departments, assisting medical staff with patient care, performing vital signs monitoring, and providing support during medical procedures and trauma resuscitations.

  • Flight Paramedic:

Join aeromedical transport teams, providing critical care to patients during air ambulance flights, responding to medical emergencies in remote or inaccessible locations, and coordinating patient transfers between facilities.

  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher:
  • Work in emergency communication centers, receiving and dispatching calls for medical emergencies, providing pre-arrival instructions to callers, and coordinating the response of EMS units.
  • Emergency Management Specialist:

 Assist in disaster preparedness and response efforts, working with government agencies, healthcare organizations, and community partners to develop emergency plans, conduct drills and exercises, and coordinate response activities during emergencies and disasters.

  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Educator:

Share your knowledge and expertise by teaching and training future EMTs, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals in educational institutions, EMS agencies, and training academies.

  • Emergency Department Manager/Administrator:

Advance into management roles within hospital emergency departments, overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Critical Care Transport Specialist:

Transport critically ill or injured patients between healthcare facilities, providing advanced medical care and monitoring during interfacility transfers via ground ambulance, helicopter, or fixed-wing aircraft.

  • Global/Disaster Relief Medic:

Volunteer or work with international organizations and relief agencies, providing medical assistance and humanitarian aid in disaster-affected areas, conflict zones, and areas of public health crisis.

 Skill Set

The graduate of   Emergency Clinical Medicine Technologist will be able to

  • Handle serious medical and surgical emergencies (including cardiac, neurological, poly-traumatic, pediatric, and obstetrical) emergencies.
  • Provide safe and efficient treatment to patients of all age groups by taking necessary decisions and also they will be able to recognize the equipment and medicines used in emergency situations.
  •  Work in any natural disaster situation like earthquakes, floods and displaced person’s rehabilitation and management. They can become important members of disaster management and build active teams perpetually in a state of preparedness to meet any natural disaster.
  •  The student accepts the   Emergency Clinical Medicine Technology program in its full sense as a lifelong activity and that he/she is prepared to invest time and effort to acquire, maintain and further improve his/her own knowledge and skills.
  • The Graduates will be experienced in handling serious medical and surgical emergencies (including cardiac, neurological, poly-traumatic, pediatric, and obstetrical) emergencies.
  • The Graduates will be able to afford safe and efficient treatment to patients of all age groups by taking necessary decisions and also they will be able to recognize the equipment and medicines used in emergency situations.
  • Awareness of the role of a professional in health/research /welfare teams and his/her willingness to work cooperatively within such teams.
  • Awareness of the fact that he/she has to create his/her own professional impact as a capable Emergency Technologist
