BS Dental Hygiene

Introduction Road Map

Introduction:

The undergraduate Dental hygiene degree program offers students combines theory and laboratory work with hands-on experience in numerous hospitals and clinics. In addition to providing preventative treatment and routine oral cleanings, dental hygienists evaluate patients for potential health issues and assist dentists in managing a variety of oral health conditions pertaining to patients' mouths, teeth, and gums.

Eligibility Criteria:

Minimum 45% Marks in Intermediate / A-Level or equivalent (Pre-Medical) and no 3rd division in Matriculation + Minimum 45% marks in admission Test.

Mission:

The mission of the BS Dental Hygiene program is to educate competent, ethical, and compassionate professionals equipped with the knowledge and clinical skills to prevent oral diseases and promote oral health. Emphasizing evidence-based practice, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the program prepares graduates to deliver effective patient care, health education, and advocacy to improve individual and public oral health outcomes.

Cognitive Domain – Knowledge-Based Learning

PLO 1: Oral Health Sciences Foundation
Apply foundational knowledge of dental anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, and microbiology to understand oral health and disease processes.

PLO 2: Etiology, Diagnosis, and Prevention of Oral Diseases
Explain the causes, progression, and prevention of common oral diseases and utilize diagnostic tools such as radiographs for effective treatment planning.

PLO 3: Dental Hygiene Concepts and Patient Management
Demonstrate understanding of dental hygiene theories, including plaque control, fluoride therapy, and dietary counseling, for managing patient oral health.

PLO 4: Pharmacology, Medical Integration, and Evidence-Based Practice
Integrate knowledge of pharmacology, systemic conditions, and current research to support safe, evidence-based dental hygiene care and clinical decisions.

Psychomotor Domain – Skills-Based Learning

PLO 5: Preventive and Therapeutic Procedures
Perform dental hygiene procedures such as scaling, polishing, fluoride application, and sealants.

PLO 6: Comprehensive Patient Assessment
Conduct complete patient assessments including intraoral, extraoral, periodontal, and risk evaluations.

PLO 7: Infection Control Practices
Implement sterilization, disinfection, and infection control measures in clinical settings.

PLO 8: Equipment and Instrumentation Use
Operate dental hygiene instruments and radiographic equipment accurately and efficiently.

Affective Domain – Attitudes and Professionalism

PLO 9: Ethical and Legal Practice
Demonstrate ethical behavior, confidentiality, informed consent, and legal responsibility in professional settings.

PLO 10: Communication and Counseling
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to support oral health promotion.

Program Overview:

Duration of degree is 4 years:

3 years are unique and distinctive frame work focus on empowering the youth to learn different techniques which stronger impact on oral health and awareness as well as to create social and economics impact. 1 years is based on skilled and hand on training which improved their clinical knowledge. Hands-on clinical practice in dental hygiene procedures under supervision. Practical training in patient care, including cleanings, scaling, and oral health education. Exposure to diverse patient populations in clinical settings. Final year of the program often involves a capstone project and entrepreneurship training.

  • Train students to perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical and dental histories, extraoral and intraoral examinations, radiographic interpretation, and risk assessments for oral diseases.
