Dr. Muhammad Naveed Afzal, has been appointed as Director School of Health Sciences. Dr. Muhammad Naveed Afzal brings with him a vast experience of working at prestigious organizations both in private and public sectors in Pakistan and in the United States.


Previously, he has served as Executive Director at tertiary-level 360-bedded teaching hospital, as Principal and Medical Director of Institute of Allied Health Sciences, and most recently, as Professor of Medical Education, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, and Director QEC.


He has vast experience of establishing academic programs in allied health sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, physiotherapy, biomedical laboratory sciences and undergraduate programs in medicine. He was a key participant in initiating the BS/BSc programs in Health Sciences in the province of Punjab. In 2004, he was appointed the first Medical Director and Principal of the first ever BS program in Health Sciences that was initiated by the Government of Punjab in affiliation with the University of Health Sciences – a position which he held for 8 years. During his tenure, several additional Doctoral and BS programs were initiated including Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, and BS Medical Lab Technology programs being notable among them.


He started his career as Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University hospital in Baltimore, USA. His research work focused on prostate cancer, for which his group won the prestigious research award in 2000 from the International Anesthesia Research Society. Before returning to Pakistan, he was appointed as Associate Scientist at the University of Chicago Medical Center, USA.


Dr Naveed holds an MBBS degree from King Edward Medical University, Lahore; a Master in Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health; and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
